WE HAVE TO SURVIVE: FUKUSHIMA!

Finished projects | Release - 2022

Synopsis

Ten years ago, in March 2011, damaged by an earthquake and a tsunami, three reactors went into meltdown at the nuclear power station in Fukushima, Japan. Everyone within 20 kilometres of the plant was evacuated, but Naoto Matsumura chose to stay – out of 80,000 residents, the sole person remaining. Now he still lives without any symptoms of radiation taking care of abandoned animals in the area that is being systematically cleaned by the Japan government and getting prepared for the new life. But the question is how to deal with a world that is balancing on the verge of a climate catastrophe.

WHTS: Fukushima! is the autonomous episode that stands out independently from the upcoming full-length film of the globe-trotting, climate change related documentary WE HAVE TO SURVIVE (shortcut WHTS). The WHTS feature documentary in progress and alongside spin off collection raise awareness about current and future climate impacts on our life by telling personal stories of people living in the already affected areas.
