Mankind is unlikely to stop climate change, but it can adapt to the new, harder conditions. The human stories driven documentary WE HAVE TO SURVIVE takes us on a journey to the four corners of the planet to meet the first climate pioneers, who are already forced to mitigate local effects of global warming and adapt to the new harder living conditions. The topic of home and climate migration is the key connection between all stories. The process of adaptation to climate change impacts that protagonists go through is the basis of the film's narrative.
WE HAVE TO SURVIVE deals with one of the major issues that all of humanity will have to face in the coming years. Transformation is a keyword in understanding what we can expect from the future. The topic of home is the key connection between all stories. After all, people just want to have their home where they are surrounded by their family and feel safe. It's existential urgence. Heat, drought, desertification and flooding are the four dominant symptoms of global climate change. There are 4 world directions and therefore we uncover 4 stories. We travel to Australia, Mongolia, the USA, and Greenland. The process of adaptation to climate change impacts that protagonists go through in the affected communities is the basis of the film's narrative. The main protagonists are not ready to join the climate refugees. Instead they want to stay where they belong, where they were born and where their social and cultural roots are. Better than just run away and abandon their home is to stay and face the force of nature and impacts of the climate change. But for what price? The success of facing the climate change issues lies in the unity or in reversing the failure that may be caused by a divided community. It is our goal to build the wider picture of the community as a collective character. The purpose of the mosaic montage is to present more motifs and elements, which gradually form higher units that are a colourful collage of human stories and portraits set in a single framework. Climate change is the starting point of the documentary, but the storytelling will transcend this layer and is meant to be a reflection about how to keep our own integrity, freedom and dignity. And how to learn from our mistakes for a better tomorrow. The project is Slovak-French-Austrian co-production. European broadcasters ARTE France, PULS4 Austria and Radio and television Slovakia involved as co-producers, Taskovski Films as world sales agent will make the film after completion widely accessible to many viewers across the continents and in many languages.
